A few years ago, I had a blog called, Love, Life, Tears, & Laughter (Then, Now & Hereafter) where I shared moments of my life in America, holidays, vacations, general things going on in life, and of course a lot about my cats. I deleted it a couple of years ago… regretfully. Anyway, I was thinking about doing something new on this site when it dawned on me that folks really liked that blog so why not share some of the stuff I used to have on that blog, here. So here’s my first post in a whole new category for this blog… I hope you enjoy it, folks: ๐
Barren River
Barren River is one of the first places I visited when I immigrated to the US. I lived in Bowling Green, Kentucky in Warren County and Barren River which is 135 miles long, flows into Bowling Green from Monroe County, (Named after the USโs fifth president, James Monroe.) also in Kentucky.

I was a little dubious when I first visited Barren River due to strange wildlife there. Rattlesnakes and spiders in particular, BIG spiders. My eyes were all over the place as I walked through the green. I had already seen wasps that were so much bigger than I was used to. (Ours are like gnats in comparison.) They scared the hell out of me. Insect life was something I had to adjust to.
My uneasiness didnโt last long. Once I saw the beauty of the river, all was forgotten. Even on my way back, I was still thinking of the river with its beautiful surroundings and totally oblivious to the wildlife around me. ๐
About four to five years after I moved to Bowling Green, Mike, my brother-in-law and I took Wesley, my son (he would have bordered on two years at the time) to the river so he could appreciate the beauty of its surroundings.
They were happy days folks and I wouldnโt exchange them for the world.
Thanks for the encouraging words, da-AL. ๐

I love this! Definitely the one shame of blogging is that older posts donโt hardly get read once there are newer ones โ great idea to revive them ๐

In your media you can select to do a slideshow, or a gallery. Then you simply select which pictures you want to put together and organise which order they go in.

It shows up differently on the laptop to the phone.
On my laptop it shows up as 9 pictures in a grid, then one, then 3 on the bottom in a line. On my phone most showed up bullet pointed. I don’t know how you posted it, for me I usually have to add every picture separately which is really annoying.
I really loved seeing them again now (when I was trying to see how they showed up on my laptop).

Fire flies? Those are magical, aren’t they. We don’t have them on the west coast and I miss them.

Lol… It was the initial shock of seeing insects so much larger than I was used to. I soon got used to them. My favourite will always be Glowflies… So beautiful! ๐

Looks like a beautiful spot full of memories. I feel the same way about our Yuba River. Not a fan though of the rattle snakes or wasps either!

Lovely photos and memories, Kevin. I don’t think of US insects as large and scary. Ha ha. I’m so glad you got to enjoy some beautiful scenery and have good memories of that time. ๐

Itโs the kind of place that moves the spirit… Not bad for a cheap 80โs camera and a guy who doesnโt have a clue when it comes to photography. Lol. ๐

Love this! I found the pictures a bit harder to zoom up because they were bullet pointed. I wish I were there!

Wasps (and hornets) scare me, too. Nonetheless, Barren River sounds like a wonderful place to visit!
